What is the most famous book, that is hardly ever read?

I often ask my delegates during training sessions, “Who has heard of the book, How to Win Friends and Influence People.” Not surprising almost every hand goes up in the room, and why not it is a very famous title! But then I ask, “Who in the room has read it?” then that is another matter, hardly any.

Well, that is no surprise.  There is a long list of famous books we have not read. But this little gem by Dale Carnegie is so surprising. Why? Because it was written over 80 years ago, and apart from the old fashioned language and the stories all being set in America it is still extremely relevant for today’s modern Business Development Professional.

During our Professional Networking training sessions, we talk about how “You have to make deposits into your networking bank account not just make withdraws.” The spirit of networking events is to attend thinking who can I help, NOT who will help me. Networking is seen as a modern sales method for selling professional services and therefore endorse a quote from the great Dale Carnegie:

I have witnessed, and experienced, countless great business opportunities which all started with somebody giving something freely; without agenda to a fellow human being. Helping people is not only a rewarding thing to do but also the most powerful way of building your own successful network.
